PETERSEN MEDIA: After nearly a month off from competition, Haley Arnold climbed back aboard her Arnold Motorsports/Mid-Mo Auto Sales/Impact Signs, Awnings, & Wraps car and ditched the wing as she scored eighth in her first ever non wing sprint car race Saturday night.
With 30-cars in the pit area at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO, Arnold used her hot lap session to feel the car out and begin to make the proper adjustments with no wing bolted to the car.
Battling a ‘loose’ car, her Arnold Motorsports team made a few adjustments for her heat race, and she then advanced to fourth place from her eighth place starting position transferring directly to the main.
During the feature event, Arnold quickly capitalized on a few mistakes that shook out in front of her, and jumped into the fourth spot.
As the race clicked on, Haley made constant laps as she continued to make adjustments and better laps.
While running fourth, Haley got out of shape, and made a few small mistakes toward the end of the race, and ultimately faded back to the eighth spot.
“It was defiantly a lot different without the wing on top, but thankfully I had a crew that could help me get comfortable as the night went on,” explained Haley. “We were good in the feature, I just made a couple of mistakes that we faded back to eighth. I’m happy with that, and hope to make a few more non wing starts in the future.”
