Ramey Earns Top 10 in First Appearance at 34 Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (Sept. 28, 2021) – Gunner Ramey posted a top-10 performance during his first visit to 34 Raceway last Saturday night.

The Terry Doogs Racing driver adapted to the track quickly, starting seventh in his heat race and passing four cars to finish third to kick off the Sprint Invaders program.

“We were fast for sure, and faster than the second-place car, but we ran out of time to get there,” he said.

Ramey’s effort in his heat race earned a spot in the dash. He fell to eighth after nearly getting in a wreck on Lap 2 following contact with another driver. The contact bent the front end of the No. 21 machine and knocked the toe out of it. Ultimately, Ramey finished where he started – sixth.

Ramey found himself with good track position for the night’s 25-car feature, lining up third. For the majority of the 30-lap feature Ramey ran in the fourth position, but traffic did not benefit his effort.

“We got into lapped traffic around Lap 10 and we got hung up trying to get by them, which really hurt us,” he said. “We had a third- to fourth-place car for sure, but lapped traffic was tough to get around all night.”

Close calls in traffic cost Ramey a couple positions and relegated him to a sixth-place outing.

Despite not getting the finish he hoped to achieve, Ramey was pleased with his overall performance.

“Overall, I thought it was a pretty solid night,” he said. “We were fast right out of the gate and got to build our notebook. We learned some things that should help us out the next time we’re back there.”

Ramey planned to head to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., this Friday and Saturday for the 34th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. However, the event has been postponed until Oct. 22-23 because of the weather.
