About Brett

Brett Engstrom
Brett has been around racing his entire life. Starting out as a BMX champion as a young man, he went on to race motocross and gradually evolved from there. He got his first job at the famed ASCOT Speedway in Gardena, CA selling peanuts in the stands and always dreamed of being on the other side of the fence, racing with his sprint car heroes. At age 14 he was crew chief on a USAC midget and traveled to several dirt tracks across the country. Brett always had a passion for racing and competed in several different types of racing from off road dune buggies, dirt go-carts, motocross, whatever he could race. He got a ride in a dirt go-cart and his passion for dirt racing got even stronger. Brett worked at Simpson Race Products and was their professional Indy Car representative. He worked with several professional drivers, sponsors, and families which gives him a unique perspective on product placement and brand awareness. After his time at Simpson, Brett worked in marketing for Treadway Racing Indy Car Team and was a team manager for an Indy Racing League (IRL) team. During this time, Brett was building open wheel race cars for other drivers in Indianapolis, IN but his real goal was to be in the driver’s seat. After traveling for several years on the professional racing circuit, Brett returned to Long Beach, CA and began trying to focus more on becoming a professional driver. He had a short stint as a test driver for a Bilstein shocks off-road effort and was a driver in the Nevada 2000. He built a Ford midget and competed in the FORD Focus Midget Series where he consistently finished in the top five and finished 9th in the US as a privateer. During this time he competed with an unlimited Class 1 buggy in the Baja 1000 as well. Brett moved to Texas and got back on the motorcycles competing in off-road and motocross. This last year Brett teamed up with sprint car owner Fred Summers to help develop a Chevrolet LS sprint car engine with the Faith, Family, Fast team. So now together they will be campaigning their sprint car and running for the rookie of year and championship points. Check us out on Facebook SmokeWagon Motorsports
