R.J. Merchant began racing at the age of nine in the JR Drag Racing League. He has since then raced many things including Tuff Trucks, Super Comp Dragster, Roadrunner, IMCA Sport mods, and IMCA Modified. R.J. has competed in many auto racing events and has won in all divisions! One win in Jr Drag Racing, 1 win in Tuff Truck competition,
3 wins in the road runner class, 28 wins in the Sportmod/Bmod class, and 7 wins so far in the IMCA Modified class!!
Career Highlights
1995- seven final round appearances
1996- five final round appearances
1997- six final round appearances and one win
1999- won Tuff Truck Competition
2001- started stock car racing finished 5th in points
and had one win.
2002- had two wins and won the track championship
at then Interstate Speedway
2003- started racing IMCA Sportmod
2009- seven wins and track championship along with
the state championship for South Dakota
2010- nine wins and track championship along with
the state championship for South Dakota
IMCA SPORTMOD-39 WINS TWO TIME TRACK
AND STATE CHAMP
2017- First win in a IMCA Modified
2018- won one race and a heat race at the IMCA
