The annual Father’s Day Weekend special at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York saw another great night of racing across all five divisions. The fans, night sponsor Howland Pump and Supply Company and the night’s featured non profit, Child Care Resource Center in Jefferson County, saw new winners and familiar drivers getting back to the winner’s circle.
Haily Brownell led the early laps of the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and was in search of her first career win. It didn’t take long for Caleb Howard to make his charge to the front as he worked the outside lane to get by for the lead on lap 6. Howard got faster as the race went on and without the help of a yellow flag, Caleb Howard put all the bad luck behind him on this night, to score his first career win in the 12 lap event. Brownell crossed in 2nd, with Brianna Murtaugh, Mason Rogers and Eymarah Bowman.
Tony Frezzo has been running strong as of late and on this night he jumped from third to the lead at the start of the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature event over David Rasmussen and Corey Valade. Frezzo looked strong but Valade was on the move, charging to the lead on lap 5 as he pursued his third win of the year. Several cautions for minor spins slowed the race on many occasions, however Valade remained up front and in control. On a late restart Valade was able to hold off all challengers to score his third win of 2025 and extend his points lead. David Rasmussen charged to 2nd with Francis White coming from 13th to finish third, while Mike Greenfield and Jared Gilson completed the top 5.
It had been since September 2nd of 2022 when Shaun Shaw last visited victory lane at Can Am and after a strong heat race, he took advantage of starting up front as he dominated the early laps over Andy Howard and Billy Dunn. The top three pulled away from the field but behind them points leader Lance Willix and four time and defending track champion Tim Fuller were all on the charge, as they made their way into the top five by the half way point. Shaw remained in front but lapped traffic was slowing his pace, which allowed Dunn to close in. On lap 21 the night would end for the six time track champion, as he slowed on the back stretch. On the final restart Shaun Shaw would fend off Tim Fuller and Lance Willix to finally get back to the winner’s circle in the 25 lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds. Willix charged to second with Ryan Bartlett making a bug move to get third, Tim Fuller crossed 4th while Andy Howard completed the top 5.
In the 20 lap Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman division, Kingston Ontario’s Greg Brinklow was out front and looking for his first ever win, with Brady Howard and Camdin Cook challenging. Brinklow was able to fend off both drivers to remain in front, however Tyler Stevenson was on the charge. Stevenson would make his way to second on lap 13 as Brinklow continued to lead and looked well on his way to his first ever win. That all changed on lap 15 as Steve Roberts slowed in turn 1. On the restart Brinklow held his line on the bottom but Stevenson was strong on the top side, as he grabbed the lead in turn 1. From the Stevenson put the car on auto pilot as he drove away to secure his 7th career Can Am Sportsman win and 1st of the year. Eric Nier drove his way to second over Gavin Eisele, Richard Murtaugh and defending track champion Mike Fowler.
The 20 lap Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint car feature saw a top driver claim a milestone win, but early on it was Tiger Chapman in control over Ken Klinkowsky and opening day winner Bruno Richard. Chapman was fast early on but spun in turn 4 after losing a left rear tire. This put Ken Klinkowsky in front with Bruno Richard and Andrew Hennessy right there with him. These three drivers put on a great show for the fans and Klinkowsky looked to be on his way to his first ever win. With two laps remaining Andrew Hennessy would make his move off turn four taking the top two spots away from both Richard and Klinkowsky. From there Andrew Hennessy would drive on to score his second win of the year, but more importantly, would hit a career milestone with his 100th career win across, Street Stocks, Canadian Modifieds, Crate Late Models and Crate Sprint Cars. Bruno Richard, Ken Klinkosky, Nick Webb and Tucker Donath completed the top 5.
Next week it’s the return of the DIRT Modified Nostalgia Tour at Can Am plus a full show for all five divisions and it is Fan Appreciation Night. Thank you to the fans for your support at Can Am. Priority Wellness Campaign will be the evenings featured non-profit.
