The 2025 racing season at the Can Am Speedway has been filled with action every week with new faces getting to victory lane and many familiar faces at the top of the leaderboard, but the season is still far from over with.
As we head into the off week at Can Am, it’s another chance to slow down and take a look at what has happened in 2025.
Lance Willix has been the story in the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds. Willix holds a slim 20 point lead over Billy Dunn, who claimed his first win of the year on Friday June 20th, the 67th of his Can Am Modified career. Four time and defending track champion Tim Fuller is still in the title hunt, 32 points behind the top two drivers and has a win on May 16th. Willix is the only two time winner this season in the Modified ranks. Along with Dunn and Fuller, drivers like Ryan Bartlett ended a near three year drought with a win on June 6th. Shaun Shaw did the same thing on June 13th, grabbing his first win since 2022 with Jackson Gill claiming his 1st Can Am win in a 358 Modified on opening day April 26th.
The Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman division is close in 2025 with no driver having a clear advantage over the first seven events. Richard Murtaugh has finished second four times this year and leads the points by a slim margin of 6 over Gavin Eisele, who recently got back into the winner’s circle on June 6th, with Kingston Ontario’s Jessica Power 3rd, 22 points behind Murtaugh. Other winners include defending track champion Mike Fowler, Josh Reome, Tyler Stevenson and Taylor Doxtator.
Andrew Hennessy is the driver atop the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars in 2025 after picking up two wins, one was a milestone for his career. Hennessy scored his 100th career win across multiple classes and nearly 10 different speedways. The Picton Ontario native leads by 6 points over 3 time and defending track champion Josh Verne Jr, who has a win on May 16th. Bruno Richard picked up his second win of the year on June 20th, which was the 72nd of his career in the number “72” car, with rookie Nick Webb claiming a checkered flag on June 6th and George Sanford, who ended a winless drought of 25 years at Can Am, claiming the Crate Sprint win on May 30th. The top 5 in the standings are separated by 14 points heading to the off week.
Corey Valade is wanting to add a Can Am track title to his resume in the Sundance Leisure Thundercars in 2025. The Rome New York driver has won 4 of the first 7 races including the last two in a row. 2021 track champion Tony Frezzo also has a win this season and has been close to several more, while Anthony St. Mary Jr grabbed a checkered flag on May 16th and Mike Greenfield got back to the winner’s circle for the first time since the 2021 season, on May 30th. Valade leads 2023 track champion Francis White by 30 points, but there are plenty of races remaining and anything can happen.
The Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman doesn’t pay a track champion but the division continues to grow each week and the action is intense. Genavieve Bartlett started the season on a hot streak winning the first three races of the season before Eymarah Bowman ended the string on May 30th with the first win of her career. Canadian Patrick Kudrinko claimed a win on June 6th with Caleb Howard winning the very next week on June 13th. 11 year old Mason Rogers made Can Am Speedway history on Friday June 20th, becoming the youngest driver to claim a feature win in the 51 year history of the speedway.
The 29th running of the Pabst Shootout will take place Wednesday July 2nd, which is also part of the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series. Also on the Wednesday card the DIRTcar Sportsman Regional Series will be on hand. Drivers from both the Central and North Regions will be on hand in a combined event, which will pay points for each region. The Empire Super Sprints will be on hand to kick off the first of five straight nights of racing for Central New York Speedweek, which will finish off on Sunday July 6th at the Weedsport Speedway.
