Cale Coons Picks Up His 1st Sprint Win At LPS Over A Field Of 38 Cars

This was going to be a great show Saturday at LPS we could tell with a huge car count of 38 sprints. The fast times in 4 groups were Jadon Rogers, Nick Billbee, Kyle Shipley and Kyle Johnson. The LPS clay was in great condition and the times were in the middle 12’s by the last group as Kyle Johnson ripped a 12. 653. Heat race 1 went to Cale Coons over Jadon Rogers, Zack Pretorius and Austin Nigh. Heat race 2 was won by Geoff Ensign over Nick Billbee, Chelby Hinton and Cody Fendley. Heat race 3 another loaded heat won by Harley Burns over JJ Hughes, Kyle Shipley and Tony Helton. The final heat was won by Kyle Johnson over Travis Thompson, Tye Mihocko and Seth Parker. 2 b mains were the format and consy 1 went to Brandon Mattox and Nate Schank. Consy 2 went to Beau Brandon and Chance Crum advancing. This setup the main event and the 2 that drew the front row were Travis Thompson and Nick Billbee. This would be one of the best of the year for 25 laps. In the early going Nick Billbee looked fast but the 63 of Cale Coons started to make his move and took the lead on the cushion. There were guys on the ledge and some of the field right on the bottom by the tires. Harley Burns who started 7th was on the low line or the Cottle line I call it and he was picking them off. Harley got to 2nd and then you could tell he was quicker on the bottom than Cale on top by the halfway point and he took the lead from Cale. Was Cale done ripping the top no way. The last restart with just 3 laps to go the 63 looked as if he was getting off of turn 2 a lot better when the green came out and sure enough the youngster made a bold move in turn 4 right off the cushion and down the front stretch with 1 to go took the lead. He would hold on for the final lap but it was so close the LPS faithful were standing up for the final turn and Cale picked up his 1st huge win. Congrats to the #63 on the big win. Following Cale at the finish it was Harley Burns, Nick Billbee, Jadon Rogers, JJ Hughes and Brandon Mattox from a strong run 17th to 6th. Thanks goes out to all 38 teams on a great show.

The UMP Super Stocks had 14 entries with Reece Novak 15.069 and Wes McClara 14.801 setting the 2 fast times in their groups. Heat 1 had Cody Tate picking up his 1st heat race win of the year at LPS over Travis Heramb, Reece Novak and Jordan Almanza. Heat race 2 Lee Hobbs kept his strong season going by winning it over Devin Wallen, Wade Goodale and Wes McClara. This setup the 20 lap A main and on the front row it was Lee Hobbs and Cody Tate. When you put the H0 on the pole it is going to be hard to challenge him and sure enough Lee looked very strong the entire race and would take the checkers for another 75 UMP points. Following Lee at the checkers it was another Hobbs chassis Reece Novak taking 2nd with Wade Goodale, Wes McClara and Devin Wallen rounding out the top 5.

The UMP Mods had 9 entries and the fast time in the group went to Tyler Loughmiller with a 14.660. Tyler would start 4th in the heat but would settle for 2nd in the heat behind the Redline chassis #91 of Brayden Watson. This setup the A with both of them on the front row. Brayden Watson would take the 20 lap A main to pull of the big win over Tyler Loughmiller, Jerry Bland JR., Jim Mallery and Matt Mitchell.

The Bombers had 11 entries and the fast times would go to Tyler Rodgers 16.037 and Josh Foxworthy 15.793. Tyler would come from 4th and win his heat over Randy Foxworthy, Brad Davis and Josh Wallace. Josh would come from 4th to win his heat over Josh Vancleave, Katie Grigsby and Terry Dean. This setup the 15 lap A main and this week Josh Foxworthy would put together a very strong 15 laps and take the win with Tyler Rodgers, Josh Vancleave, Randy Foxworthy, Scott Tidwell, Katie Grigsby and Brad Davis at the finish. Don’t forget it is the Doubleheader weekend Friday and Saturday the SPRINTACULAR!!! Usac Sprints will battle it out for 2 nights and it will be a huge field of cars both days for the sprints!! Friday the Bombers and UMP Mods are on the card with Saturday bringing the Huntley 305 series and the UMP Super Stocks. See you at LPS to celebrate a huge July 4th weekend!!
