Gunnar Setser competes in busy Fourth of July weekend

Gunnar Setser’s Fourth of July weekend kicked off early with a visit to The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the seventh annual BC39, part of the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship.

With 66 entries on hand for the two-day midweek event, the Columbus, Indiana native raced his way into Tuesday’s preliminary feature by finishing third in his heat and advancing through the B-Feature. He improved eight spots in the 30-lapper to finish 13th.

On Wednesday, Setser was one of 66 drivers split into six qualifying races, where he drove to a 10-lap victory to secure a starting spot on the seventh row for the $20,039-to-win BC39 finale. Facing a stacked field, Setser advanced three positions over the 39-lap distance to register an 11th-place finish.

Shifting to Sprint Car competition over the weekend, Setser returned to action in the KO Motorsports No. G5 Sprint Car for the Sprintacular at Lincoln Park Speedway. He recorded a 12th-place finish in Friday’s USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship feature, while Saturday’s outing was cut short with a ninth-place result in the consolation race.
