Parker Jones Makes it Eight in a Row With Badger in Beaver Dam Farewell

Parker Jones is blazing a new trail in the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Auto Racing Association. On Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway he extended his consecutive winning streak record in the historic club to eight A-Main wins. It’s his ninth win of the Badger season overall. The win may be the last for any Badger driver, as the track is for sale.

QUALIFYING AND HEATS

Zach Boden dashed any hopes of another sweep for Jones right away as he took Rod End Supply Fast Time. He was followed by Luke Wackerlin and Jones.

In Auto Meter Heat-One Jones had the lead by the time they exited turn-two on the opening lap over Dave Collins Jr. who started on the outside of the front row. A yellow slowed the field a few laps in. On the restart Jones kept the lead, but Nick Kilian, who’s had some solid runs this year including a heat win the previous night, kept Jones in his sights.

Mike Stroik, Jake Goeglein, Aaron Fiscus and Collins put on a show fighting for third despite all cars making the A-Main. Jones won with Kilian in second.

Dave Jones Heat-Two Miles Doherty beat Mike Unger out of turn-four to complete the first lap. Luke Wackerlin, a fellow teenager to Doherty, found himself in second. The Wackerlin pressured Doherty some, but the latter took the win.

Todd Kluever and Brandon Waelti led them down for Behling Racing Equipment Heat-Three. Two laps in, they were nose to tail and side by side. Waelti started to pull away half-way through and took the win after the Kluever machine expired with a few laps to go.

LYCO MANUFACTURING A-MAIN

Eric Blumer led the field of 21 midgets to the green for the 25 lap A-Main. Twenty-two were slated to start but Aaron Fiscus did not answer the bell.
Blumer, who has never taken a checkered flag of any sort with Badger, jumped to the lead when the green flew. Derek Doerr nipped him at the line to lead lap-one. Blumer was back in the lead on lap-two running the low groove. And here came Jones, who was already in third.

With three laps in, the red flag flew for Waelti who jumped the right rear of Mike Stroik who’s car had a mechanical issue and went flipping. He was then hit by Kluever as he was on his side and against the wall. Kluever immediately hopped out of his car to make sure his friend was alright. Waelti said must have said he was okay and Kluever strapped back into his #55 and rejoined the race. (As of Sunday morning Waelti reports he’s very sore, his car is badly damaged and he won’t be able to race at Angell Park for night-three of the weekend.)

The restart saw Blumer maintain the point where he put a few lengths on Doerr and Jones as the two battled. At about lap-six Jones got by Blumer and Doerr.

Ten laps in, Jones had a straightaway over Blumer who was still tailed by Doerr. Soon thereafter, a yellow slowed the field which was followed by a lengthy delay, leaving the cars idling for an inordinate amount of time. It was later learned that the scoring computer had crashed and there was a lengthy reboot.

Jones took off again once racing resumed, putting half a lap on Doerr who stretched his lead on Blumer. Meanwhile Blumer was trying to hold off Boden and Kluever, who had basically started this run from 19th after the Waelti flip.

With five laps to go Kluever was on the charge and got by Boden and Blumer for third. A yellow bunched the field for the last time a short time later. Jones took off again on the restart. Kluever didn’t make it a lap before his car expired and he rolled to the infield. This left a battle between Doerr, Boden and Wackerlin who swapped spots several times in a lap. Wackerlin prevailed and set his sights on Jones. Coming to the checkers, Wackerlin got within a foot of Jones’ left rear, but it wasn’t enough and Jones extended his winning streak on the year.
