It was another exciting evening at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York, with plenty on the line for drivers in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints. The winner would get a guaranteed spot into the Northern Crate Nationals in September at the Ohsweken Speedway. Other drivers in our other divisions were also looking to stay in the hunt for track championships.

In the 12 lap Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman feature Caleb Howard set the early pace over Brianna Murtaugh and Mike Durham. The top three started to pull away but a quick yellow on lap three bunched the field up for a restart. When the green flew Howard remained in control but Brianna Murtaugh was right there to challenge throughout the event. While the top two battled, this brought Mason Rogers up to join the battle, as he jumped into third with 5 laps remaining. On lap 9 the yellow flew for a spun Jason Rarick, bunching up the field yet again. On the final restart Caleb Howard was able to pull away from Brianna Murtaugh and Mason Rogers to record his 2nd win of the season. Behind Murtaugh and Rogers were Genavieve Bartlett and Hayden Howard, who rallied from an early spin to take 5th.

Derek Webb paced the field at the start of the Whitesboro Plowshop DIRTcar 358 Modified feature, but the story was Billy Dunn. The 6-time track champion started in 6th and by lap 3, got around Webb to go to the top spot and pull away from the field. As the laps clicked off Tim Fuller was able to get by Webb for second and began his pursuit of the leader, while Lance Willix made his way to third. With 10 laps remaining Dunn and Fuller made it clear they were the two drivers to beat as they held a comfortable margin over Lance Willix, allowing Fuller to reel in the leader. With 5 laps to go Fuller closed to within 4 car lengths of Dunn, but on this night Billy Dunn would work traffic perfectly and march on to his 3rd win in the last 5 outings at Can Am, along with his 69th career Modified win at the Nasty Track of the North. Fuller took 2nd with Lance Willix, Shaun Shaw and Ryan Bartlett the top 5

A spot for Ohsweken and a cool $1000 awaited the winner of the 25 lap Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars on this night. With this being a heads up start and show up points to all drivers, heat winners Andrew Hennessy and Josh Verne Jr. paced the field to green, with Hennessy getting the jump over Verne and Bruno Richard. All three drivers began to pull away early on and showed they would be the drivers to contend with. Patrick Nolan spun on the front stretch bringing out the first yellow on the night. When the green flew Hennessy remained up front but Josh Verne Jr. was moving around the race track searching for speed, but Hennessy held off the three time champion and was looking to become the first three time winner this year. As the laps clicked off Hennessy and Verne staged a great battle with lapped cars having little affect on the top two. Josh Verne Jr. got close on the final lap, but it was Andrew Hennessy taking the big win and the spot at Ohsweken, plus his third win of the year. Verne crossed in 2nd with Bruno Richard, Nick Webb and George Sanford the top 5.

Paul DeRuyter was the early leader in the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman 20 lap feature, but behind him Taylor Doxtator made a big move passing five cars to get to the runner up spot with Gage Howard making up the top three. DeRuyter had a fast car and was driving away, but Doxtator was also quick and moved in on the race leader. DeRuyter was able to hold off Doxtator as they both put a big gap between themselves and third place running Owen Nier. Richard Murtaugh was on the move as well and got to 5th by the halfway point, but on lap 12, his run at three straight wins came to an end as he broke the rear end on his car, leaving him 18th at the finish and the caution flew. This proved to be the restart Taylor Doxtator wanted as he shot by DeRuyter to take control of the race in the final laps. With no pressure from behind, Taylor Doxtator built up a straight away lead and cruised easily to his second win of the season at Can Am. DeRuyter claimed his best finish of second while Eric Nier got by Owen Nier at end for third, with Jessica Power finishing 5th.

Last week’s winner Jared Gilson, 4 time winner Corey Valade and 2021 track champion Tony Frezzo were the clear cut favorites in the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature event. The top three exchanged positions throughout the first 10 laps of the race, with Gilson and Valade eventually pulling away from everyone and putting on a great show for the fans. On lap 10 the yellow flew for Colby Hibbard who slowed on the back stretch. This gave Corey Valade the chance to grab the lead and he did on lap 12, getting by Gilson with Frezzo close by in third. At the checkered flag Corey Valade would cross the line as the winner, but the race was still not determined. After a post race weigh in, Corey Valade’s car was found to be under the minimum weight requirement, which gave Jared Gilson his second straight win on the year. Tony Frezzo would be move to second with Collin Bauter third, David Rasmussen and OJ White the top 5.

Next week the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints take the evening off as the Empire Super Sprints make their 2nd of three stops at the Nasty Track of the North along with a full show for all classes. Gates open at 5pm with the first green flag flying at 7pm.
