The Can Am Speedway is ready to welcome the very exciting and fastest cars all year, the Empire Super Sprints this coming Friday night plus a big card of racing in all regular divisions, with point titles still very much up for grabs.
Last week in the Whitesboro Plowshop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, 6 time track champion Billy Dunn went from 6th to the lead in three laps, getting around early leader Derek Webb. Dunn then held off four-time and defending track champion Tim Fuller to secure his 69th career Modified win, just four shy of Hall of Famer Pat O’Brien’s win record. Tim Fuller and Lance Willix completed the podium.
Paul DeRuyter was the dominant driver in the early stages of the 20 lap Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman feature. DeRuyter led the first 12 laps, before a restart allowed Taylor Doxtator to get by and pull away to record his second win of the season. DeRuyter crossed second with Eric Nier third.
Andrew Hennessy and Josh Verne Jr. were the two dominant forces in the 25 lap Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car feature. With a spot on the line for the Northern Crate Nationals, both drivers were battling hard. In the end Hennessy got the win and the spot at Ohsweken, with Josh Verne Jr. and Bruno Richard third.
Caleb Howard was able to park it in victory lane for his second win of 2025 in the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman feature. Howard took the lead at the drop of the green, survived three restarts and a challenge from Brianna Murtaugh to record the win. Brianna Murtaugh claimed her 4th runner up finish of the year with Mason Rogers taking third.
Corey Valade crossed the line first in the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature after a great battle all night long with Jared Gilson and 2021 Track Champion Tony Frezzo. Valade took the lead late and everyone thought he had win number 5 on the year. Valade would come up a few pounds shy of the minimum weight requirement, giving Jared Gilson his second win in a row over Frezzo, while Collin Bauter completed the top three.
This coming Friday the Empire Super Sprints come to town for the second of three visits to Can Am. Their first visit on July 3rd proved to be one for the ages as Dylan Swernik powered by two-time and defending series champion Jordan Poirier for the win with Billy VanInwegen third. That win propelled Swernik to the 2025 Central New York Speedweek title, leaving fans excited to see the ESS once again.
On the card will be the Whitesboro Plowshop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman plus Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and Sundance Leisure Thundercars. Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints have the night off. Gates open at 5pm with the first green flag flying at 7pm.
