Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (July 28, 2025) – Kaleb Johnson captured a trio of second-place finishes last week.
The Team DGRD driver earned a runner-up result on Tuesday at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa; on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn.; and on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.
“I think it shows the speed we have,” he said. “We didn’t showcase it much on Saturday at Knoxville, but every other time we hit the track last week we were fast and we went forward in every feature. We have the speed and hopefully the wins will be coming.”
Johnson advanced from sixth to third place during a Cressman Sanitation Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars heat race at Rapid Speedway before he gained a position for the second-place outing in the main event.
“We were fast and I definitely needed the race to stay green in the feature,” he said. “I caught Austin (McCarl) in traffic and a yellow came out. We went another four or five laps when there was another caution. At that point there were seven or eight laps left and I knew it’d be tough to beat him in clean air.”
Johnson timed in 13th quickest before he moved from fifth to third place in an MSTS 410 Sprint Cars heat race to open the program at Jackson Motorplex. The night concluded with a run from eighth to second place in the A Main.
“The crazy thing is in qualifying if we were two hundredths better we would have been on the pole of a heat race,” he said. “The track was slick and wide and we were able to move forward. In the feature, I bided my time and passed cars when I needed. It was the same thing as Rapid Speedway; if the race stayed green I felt good because we were reeling in Kerry (Madsen), but we had an untimely red flag. Sometimes it doesn’t work out.”
Johnson was 14th quickest in his group and seventh in a heat race on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. He transferred through the B Main with a third-place result before maneuvering from 23rd to 16th in the main event.
“We didn’t qualify well and that put us in a hole the rest of the night,” he said. “We were able to make it through the B Main and pass a few cars in the A Main and call it a night.”
The weekend wrapped up at Huset’s Speedway, where Johnson was second quickest in his group. He placed third in a heat race and missed the feature redraw by only one point. That lined him up ninth in the A Main.
“I knew it’d be tough starting ninth, but my main focus was to keep the car in one piece and move forward,” he said. “I was able to take advantage of other peoples mistakes and felt like I had a shot with five laps to go, but it didn’t work out to get the win. Heavy tracks haven’t been our strong point this year so it felt good to advance seven spots on the type of track we haven’t been that great on.”
Johnson tied for the second-most positions gained at Jackson Motorplex and at Knoxville Raceway, and he advanced the second most at Huset’s Speedway. He leads the Huset’s Speedway championship standings by 27 points.
Johnson plans to race in the Ironman 55 this Friday and Saturday at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park in Pevely, Mo., with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and Sunday at Knoxville Raceway during the Avanti Windows & Doors Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank.
