AFS Badger Midgets Set for the Tow to Eagle River Speedway in Wisconsin's Northwoods

Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Series fans and teams alike are excited about Saturday’s (Aug. 2nd) go at Eagle River Speedway. Many cars were in the pits at Eagle River last year when a brief, but strong shower forced the cancelation of that event.

We touched base with several of the drivers planning on making the tow and here’s what they had to say:

“The Blue Mounds Bullet” Parker Jones leads the points and will be trying to extend his record streak of nine wins in a row- “I’m really looking forward to racing in the Wisconsin Northwoods, hoping we can carry our momentum we have rolling into this weekend.”

Derek Doerr, second in points- “I think it presents a fun challenge going to a new place. I’m looking forward to racing on the egg shaped track as I have always liked technical tracks with a unique shape…”.

For locals fans that may not know, Todd Kluever has an extensive stock car record and has a lot of laps between all three of NASCAR’s highest ranks. He’s currently fifth in points- “I am planning to go and I’m looking forward to it. We went last year and it looked like a fun place. Myself and some friends also rent a home in the winter for snowmobiling about three or four houses down from the racetrack so we have always talked about racing there so it will finally happening.”

After a hitting the wall, flipping and landing on his tail tank where the nose of the car was pointing straight up when the safety crew got there this past Sunday, Iowa’s Miles Doherty looks like he’ll be making it- “I’m feeling good, we have been extra busy working on this car but plan to be there Saturday!”

There’s no better ambassador for the Badger Midgets than “Danger” Dave Collins Jr. He is one of the few drivers who hauls his car on an open trailer. He’s also the only one with any experience at the track. When you see the #40 coming through town, give him a wave- “Definitely excited to go run Eagle River again. We’d made a couple trips up there in the micro days including a very successful 2nd place run that ALMOST could’ve been a winner. There’s something I find special about the small town tracks like Eagle River where the community is so present for the entertainment. It reminds me of my time as a fan at Black Widow (Speedway, Lexington, OK) and cutting my teeth as a young driver in Fort Cobb, OK, so I’m excited for that too!”

Many other cars and stars of the AFS Badger Midget Auto Racing Association, along with their well-traveled fans, are excited about making the trip.
